Ljubljana, Slovenia

Legend has it that Ljubljana was founded by Jason, who had stolen the golden fleece from King Aetes and fled with the Argonauts across the Black Sea and up the Danube River. After that they travelled on the Sava and Ljubljanica rivers, they stopped at a lake in the marsh near Ljubljana. The lake was home to a dreaded dragon. Jason fought the monster, and slayed it. Now referred to as the Ljubljana Dragon, it is now a symbol of the city and sits atop the castle tower on the Ljubljana coat of arms. There is also a bridge, picture here, with four likenesses of the dragon. (I took a picture of the bridge, but this one from the Ljubljana tourism website is much nicer. http://www.ljubljana.si/.)

The castle on the hill, above the river and historic buildings.

Ljubljanski Grad, the castle.

View from the castle spire.

Damir and the incredible spot in his village where we tossed a bee. His mother served coffee and many types of sweets. Also, fresh hazelnuts.
